Alvin Brooks Middle School Library Policies and Collection Development Guidelines
Creating this policy document has helped me strengthen the foundation of our library program at Alvin Brooks Middle School. It reflects our commitment to literacy, student voice, and equitable access to meaningful resources. These guidelines support a welcoming environment where students feel confident, curious, and capable, and they help ensure our program stays aligned with the needs of our community and with DESE’s vision for exemplary libraries.
How students find books in our library
The genrefied layout of our collection helps students learn how to choose books with confidence. The two step system of genre first and color coding second makes the library easy to navigate for all readers, including students who are still building reading skills or learning English. This design supports independence, curiosity, and strong reading habits.
